Nippon Genshosha Japanese Swordsmiths

Choose from one of two swordsmithing experiences at a traditional Japanese forge with licensed swordsmiths. Visit a forge and watch masters at work. Stop by the gallery and hold authentic Japanese swords and learn about the history of swords in Japan. Or for a more immersive experience, try forging your own tamahagane steel pen knife. 10 years and older to participate.

 

Japanese Swordsmith Workshop and Gallery Visit

Tamahagane Steel Paper Knife Making

Location: Kyotango (Tango)

Access: bus or car

Length: 3 hours

What’s included: forge visit, learn how a traditional Japanese sword is made, visit the gallery space to get hands on with Japanese swords made by liscenced swordsmiths. Also includes forging and creation of your own paper knife, including manning the bellows, hammering the steels, and sharpening.
