Seafood by the season

The seafood along the Sea of Japan is some of the best in the world. The coastline is a UNESCO Global Geopark with many habitats. Plus the clean mountain waters that run out to the sea provide vital nutrients to the waters. The catch varies seasonally so no matter when you visit, you’ll be trying something new. The Matsuba snow crab is highly prized all throughout Japan. But coming to the region means getting to try fresh oysters, clams, torigai shellfish, sea snails, turban shells, sea urchin, six varieties of squid, deep sea smelt, yellowtail, sea bream, red sea bream, flying fish, flounder, yellowtail amberjack, Japanese amberjack, mackerel, Japanese Spanish mackerel, Japanese whiting, rockfish, flathead fish, striped beakfish, etc.
