Haisai! Come on in for a drink and some Okinawan cuisine!
Opened in 2008, Ryuhorakuen Chura is an Okinawan-themed izakaya within walking distance from Nishi-Maizuru Station. The entrance is decorated with a red tile roof and shisa (Okinawan stone guardian), and the inside of the restaurant is decorated with stone walls and goodwill from Awamori Sake Brewery, giving one the illusion of being in Okinawa. People love the experience, and it’s often crowded with office workers, couples, and families from Maizuru. The Okinawan specialties on the menu also use a variety of local ingredients. Some of the signiature dishes are the hot pot and teppanyaki made with "Agu pork", which has a reputation for being sweet and delicious (great for large parties). We also have a champuru set meal and a fried-chicken set meal (780 yen each). We have more than 50 brands of Okinawan awamori, which is a strong rice-liquor, and we serve them Okinawa-style, which often means serving it in a karakara pot for pouring or diluted with jasmine tea.
from the chef:
99% of customers ask me, "Are you from Okinawa?" I was actually born and raised in Maizuru, but I'm training in Sanshin performances and Okinawan language. Most of the menu is Okinawan local cuisine. In addition to the classics such as Okinawan-style stewed pork spare rib soba and other juicy Okinawan staples, there is also A & W root beer and an extensive collection Okinawan awamori. There are many non-alcoholic drinks and desserts, so please feel free to come and visit us.
Goya Champuru
Okinawa's representative stir-fry dish with island tofu, spam, goya, and eggs. It has seasoning that everyone likes, and it's recommended when you're lost or just want to be in the moment .

Sea grapes, pig ears, and island leeks. One plate with three of Okinawa's classic snacks. The crunchy texture of sea grapes is addictive.

Kume Island’s Kumesen
Awamori rice liquor is also popular in Okinawa. It’s more fun when you order the karakara set to pour your awamori. The chef’s recommendation is the awamori 3-variety sampler for 1,500 yen.
