A quiet place where you can view Ine’s Funaya Boat Houses

The town of Ine is located on the east side of Tango Peninsula in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture. The town is enveloped by nature and is a thriving area for agriculture and fishing. The funaya (boat house) area of Ine is where fishermen work and live. The funaya were built to store boats on the first floor, where boats can be brought in directly from the sea. The area has become a popular tourist attraction and sees a large number of visitors who want to see these traditional buildings for themselves. Lounge Funaya is located at the Roadside Station, which is set up on the hill above the funaya village and overlooking the streets of Ine’s boat houses. The restaurant offers food and drinks in a corner of the Roadside Station, in addition to the great view. They serve seafood rice bowls (filled with fish caught in Ine), coffee, and soft-serve ice cream, ramen, and curry rice as well. It takes about 5 minutes by car or 10 minutes on foot to get to Ine Bay from the roadside station.

from the chef:

When the water temperature is low, fish eat less food and grow slowly in Ine Bay. During this time the amount of fish raised in the Bay reduces by about a third, but they continue to be raised as naturally as possible (not attempting to reduce their movement or natural environment). Because of this natural environment, the fish become more flavorful. The restaurant’s newest dish, the sea bream rice bowl, uses red sea bream from Hashimoto Fisheries conscientiously raised in Ine Bay. The restaurant has a casual atmosphere, and the woman who runs it also runs a long-established inn in the local area. I am confident in the ingredients we use. I look forward to serving you!
