Japan Food Heritage

Food Culture with history unique to Kyoto by the Sea

Kyoto by the Sea is Japan’s first ancient kingdom. This is the birthplace of agriculture and sake in Japan. Artifacts used for procuring food on the Tango Peninsula certify Kyoto by the Sea as one of the three oldest points of human civilization in Japan. 36,000 years ago humans were coming to this region for their nourishment. And that hasn’t changed. Over the millennia, the region has only grown to harbor Japan’s most distinguished sake brewers, chefs, and culinary experts. Now is an exciting time for the Kyoto by the Sea area. The region has been a confluence of culture, and it continues to attract people looking to harness the ancient culinary heritage the area is founded on. We have 12 sake brewers, a winery, multiple craft beer breweries, creative chefs who have moved here to seek out organic farms, permaculture, soil rebuilders, and the fisheries that have been moving towards more sustainable practices. Experience Japan’s 72 seasons with your taste buds in the place that gave birth to Japan’s amazing food culture, Kyoto by the Sea.
