Genmyoan Cafe (map)

cost estimate: lunch 1,000 yen

A cheery café with natural desserts sure to make you smile

This cafe is run by Genmyoan Ryokan, a culinary inn founded in the middle of the Edo period. In contrast to traditional style tea houses, this building has large windows that let in lots of light. The building itself is an old warehouse that has been renovated with a European design concept. The cafe serves organic desserts, sandwiches, paninis and other light meals. These dishes are made by thoughtfully choosing from the best local ingredients like Tanegashima's soybean sugar, or Tamba's free range eggs. And the restaurant is a 1-minute walk from both Amanohashidate Station, and the famous Amanohashidate land bridge. And right across from the cafe is the road that leads to Amanohashidate’s Viewland cable car and chair lifts. Even if you have already eaten, you can stop by for a glass of wine, local sake, or additive=free cider out on the terrace.

from the chef:

We believe in making desserts that are gentle on the body, and you can pair them with organic coffee or tea. We also recommend the souvenirs here. In addition to cakes and tarts, we also have a wide range of baked goods such as soy sauce flavored walnuts: organic walnuts caramelized with soy sauce. We also have financiers, galettes, and florentines. We also sell some of the organic ingredients we serve here, as well as Miyazu specialties, pottery, and glassware.
