A collaboration of authentic French cuisine and the ultimate yakitori

Amiken is an izakaya opened in 2009 by Goji Ono, the manager of the Spanish bar GOZIAMI (about 10 minutes from Amiken). This izakaya-style restaurant has a unique style and was built upon the experience of Mr. Ono. The restaurant’s manager and chef is Shohei Ogaki, who has studied at a French restaurant in Kyoto’s Brighton Hotel. His specialty is in meat and fish dishes that are heightened by herbs. There are French specialties like charcoal grilled beef tongue seasoned with lemon basil and white onion to make a refreshing finish, and there is even a version of the traditional consommé jelly. Don't miss the traditional French canelé for 310 yen, and blue cheese cream puff for 190 yen. There’s also sake and wine from local breweries.

From the chef:

Previously, I worked in a hotel / French restaurant under a Michelin-starred chef. Here, I learned the ins and outs of yakitori (grilled chicken) from the owner, Chef Ono. And after a grueling [laughs] training period, I think that I can finally cook yakitori up to his standards. All of the secret techniques I learned are gathered into one dish: the size and shape of the meat lanced on the skewers, the salt applied like snowfall. Then, I carefully grill it over charcoal. Its fun to be able to utilize both my expertise in French cuisine and yakitori together!

Yakitori

The special grilling method traps the juiciness and flavors of the meat within the skin. With just the right amount of salt, or unsweetened sauce, each bite is perfect. Starting at 160 yen per skewer.

Pate en croute

Soak beef and pork in wine or brandy, stir with flavored vegetables, and wrap it like a pie. This is Chef Ogaki's recommendation and it takes more than half a day to prepare.
