Sister restaurant to "Himiko" in Maizuru. The array of local fish is selected by chefs who have extensive knowledge of freshness and quality. Each day’s catch it like a treasure box with so much fresh fish to look forward to. The restaurant is an izakaya at heart with a variety of seasonal seafood such as rock oysters, sea bream, hamachi, and more. Children under the age of 6 are served free udon noodles, and there are plenty of private tatami mats so families can have space and eat in comfort. The restaurant has made a great effort to be accommodating to a wide variety of customers. The grilled mackerel sushi is a signature item that uses sesame and sweet and sour ginger. Eat in or order to go as Bongu has extended their services to include take-out. Handling everything from lunch to groups and satisfying all of your tavern needs, if you aren’t sure where to eat, Bongu is the natural choice.
from the chef:
Maizuru born and raised, I started out at a local sushi and izakaya restaurant, and have been working at Bongu for about two years. I'm very particular about fish, so I'm tough on myself. I’m consciously trying to improve my craft every day. As an ‘izakaya’ we offer a wide range of dishes and focus a lot on menu development. I want to make dishes that both locals and visitors can enjoy equally, showcasing the unique flavors of Maizuru.
